The Jonas Brothers Are Back And I Couldn’t Be More Thrilled

I remember the first time I ever saw and heard the Jonas Brothers. I was watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade on my family’s TV and a trio of teenage boys sang on a float about being on a time machine (I didn’t know it at the time, but they were singing their hit single “Year 3000”, which I later found out wasn’t even theirs). Like every young girl growing up at the beginning of the new millennium, I fell in love with their upbeat, teenage pop music, and inadvertently them as well.

It clearly wasn’t just me that had found love in the then-relatively new band. Everyone had a favorite — usually either Nick or Joe (I have yet to find a girl who believed that Kevin was the best member). The fandom was so intense at the height of the band’s heyday that there were fans like my middle school locker neighbor, who had mini posters of the Jonas Brothers, and more specifically Joe Jonas, in her locker. Girls swooned when their music videos popped up on Disney Channel (remember the “Burnin’ Up” music video and how gorgeous Nick looked in his Bond-like suit?).

The band and these three teenage boys were all the world could talk about. Concerts sold out. Albums flew off the shelves. Pictures were plastered all over the covers of magazines — teen and adult alike. They had organically without the world of social media.

It was as if the world had been hit with some type of fever and no one wanted to figure out how to get better from it.

When the band announced their split after a few years of hiatus in 2013, my heart broke. Although I knew that the brothers weren’t leaving the industry — they were pursuing solo projects — it was like a part of my adolescent years had died. At the time. I didn’t know that the thirst trap that is Nick Jonas would launch a successful acting/music career, while Joe would sing about cake by the ocean. Nonetheless, it was an inevitable breakup that I was blindsided by. And if I’m gonna be honest — I didn’t know if there was going to be another band that would stay with me the same way that the Jonas Brothers had been through my teenage years.

I’d been with the Jonas Brothers since the beginning. I’d been with them through every movie (Camp Rock, anyone?), television show (did anyone actually like JONAS?), heartbreak (quite a few), marriage (two so far — just waiting on Joe to complete the trifecta) and even kids (Kevin and his wife have some of the cutest celebrity kids I’ve seen).

Today is the day that my adolescence was revived — because not only are the Jonas Brothers are back, but they release new music tomorrow!

Is the music going to be the same that loyal fans had come to expect from the trio? With the number of experiences that each one went through, I doubt that the music is going to bring me back to the days of rocking out and dancing in the hot sun during camp. If anything, there is going to be a growth of music — and I can’t wait for it.
